Abstract We present methods and results for fusion of imagery from multiple sensors to create a color night vision capability. The fusion system architectures are based on biological models of the spatial and opponentcolor processes in the human retina and visual cortex, implemented as shunting center-surround feed-forward neural networks. Real-time implementation of the dualsensor fusion system combines imagery from either a low-light CCD camera or a short-wave infrared camera, with thermal long-wave infrared imagery. Results are also shown for extensions of this fusion architecture to include imagery from all three of these sensors, Visible/SWIR/LWIR, as well as a four sensor system using Visible/SWIR/MWIR/LWIR cameras. We also demonstrate how results from these multi-sensor fusion systems are used as inputs to an interactive tool for target designation, learning, and search based on a Fuzzy ARTMAP neural network.

Image Fusion & Mining Tools for a COTS Environment
We have continued development of a system for multisensor image fusion and interactive mining based on neural models of color vision processing, learning and pattern recognition. We pioneered this work while at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, initially for color fused night vision (low-light visible and uncooled thermal imagery) and later extended it to multispectral IR and 3D ladar. We also developed ...

متن کاملTrue-Color Night Vision Cameras
This paper describes True-Color Night Vision cameras that are sensitive to the visible to near-infrared (V-NIR) portion of the spectrum allowing for the “true-color” of scenes and objects to be displayed and recorded under low-light-level conditions. As compared to traditional monochrome (gray or green) night vision imagery, color imagery has increased information content and has proven to enab...
متن کاملNight Vision Camera Fusion with Natural Colors Using a Spectral / Texture Based Material Identification Algorithm
Combining multiple types of night vision cameras, such as low-light-level visible to near infrared (VNIR), short-wave (SWIR), mid-wave (MWIR), and/or long-wave infrared (LWIR), enables the presentation of complimentary information into a single display. A great deal of developmental work has been devoted to maximizing the information in the fused imagery; however, fusion schemes that rely on so...
متن کاملAn Exploration of Color Fusion with Multispectral Images for Night Vision Enhancement
Multispectral images usually present complimentary information such as visual-band imagery and infrared imagery (near infrared or long wave infrared). There are strong evidences that the fused multispectral imagery (in gray scales) increases the reliability of interpretation (Rogers & Wood, 1990; Essock et al., 2001) and thus good for machine analysis (computer vision); whereas the colorized mu...
